Our Hearing Aids

What is a hearing aid

A hearing aid is a small electronic device that you wear in or behind your ear. It makes some sounds louder so that a person with hearing loss can listen, communicate, and participate more fully in daily activities. A hearing aid can help people hear more in both quiet and noisy situations.

A hearing aid has three basic parts: a microphone, amplifier, and speaker. The hearing aid receives sound through a microphone, which converts the sound waves to electrical signals and sends them to an amplifier. The amplifier increases the power of the signals and then sends them to the ear through a speaker.

Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC)

CIC aids are the smallest type of hearing aid and one that is barely visible once placed in the ear. In most cases, CIC aids are recommended for people who have a mild to moderate hearing loss and an ear canal large enough to accommodate the device.

In-The-Canal (ITC)

This is the smallest type of hearing instrument available and is invisible in the ear – designed for people who want the ultimate in discretion. Sitting deep inside the ear canal, an IIC instrument offers the benefits of the natural acoustics of the external ear. IIC instruments are custom made and are recommended typically for people with mild to moderately severe hearing loss.

In-The-Ear (ITE)

Customizable & virtually invisible: Since it fits directly inside the ear canal, in-the-ear hearing aids are virtually invisible. Due to their small size, ITE devices are best suited for those with mild to moderate hearing loss

Behind-the-Ear (BTE)

High-performance & discreet design: In their smallest form, behind-the-ear hearing aids are about the size of a coffee bean, featuring a sound tube with a customized ear mold or external receiver placed in the ear canal. BTEs are suitable for mild to severe hearing loss.

Receiver-in-Canal (RIC)

RITE devices house most of the electronics in a case that fits behind the ear, and look similar to BTE devices, though they are usually significantly smaller. The difference with RITE devices is that sound is transmitted electronically from the case to a tiny speaker suspended in the ear canal – a feature that gives more flexibility and better performance than BTE devices in many cases.

Hearing Aid Repair And Maintenance

Hearing aids are comprised of tiny electrical components that may experience wear and tear over time. If this is the case, you’ll likely need to visit your hearing professional to have the problem assessed. Whether it’s simply due to aging or the units have been exposed to moisture, excessive wax, debris or physical damage, you’ll want your hearing specialist to evaluate the extent of repairs needed.
